As a first-time filmmaker I was prepared to self-distribute this project, focusing my goals on reaching communities around the country and beyond in order to participate in conversations about why community and space matters not just for LGBTQI people, but also for any marginalized group.
And so I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that we already have a distributor on board, a distributor whose history and purpose aligns so well with the content and goals of this film – Women Make Movies.
Founded in 1972, a couple of years before the Lesbian Herstory Archives (one of the spaces featured in the film), Women Make Movies has been devoted to sharing work by self-identified women from across cultures, generations, experiences, and backgrounds for decades. Their connections to communities and groups around the world and their long-term commitments to the films they put in their catalogue made them my dream distributor, so I couldn’t be happier to have this partnership with them.
They were actually an early supporter of the project through their Production Assistance Program (highly recommend this program to others).
Women Make Movies also has deep connections to educational and academic institutions throughout the US and abroad.
If you work for or attend a university, college or other institution, you can now pre-order the film for screenings or to keep as a part of your permanent collection. And if you’re part of a K-12 school, a public library, or a domestic violence shelter or other community-based organization, you can pre-order the DVD at a special low price for screenings.
